Description

These short pieces should really be called Four “Wake-Ups” for Concert Band. Based on a scale study, these warm-ups contain different elements often overlooked in the development of students, and each focuses on different concepts. In addition, all instruments feature in one or another of the pieces.

1) Triumphant Trumpets – Concert Ab major, march style, many varying articulations, dotted quaver-semiquaver rhythms.

2) Favourable Flutes – Concert Bb major, slow chorale style with independent rhythms.

3) Largely Lower Brass – Concert C minor, slow chorale style but melody is in bass/tenor instruments so balance is the key element.

4) Ready, Reeds – Concert C major, moderate tempo with varying articulations, extra accidentals in addition to the tricky key.
