Description

This unique concert band composition features a section of pitched tubes (such as Boomwhackers), but played by all the non-percussionists in the band – the percussionists are busy enough!
This piece tells the story of a battle – I would like the performers to come up with their own ideas behind the story (who, when , where, why, are there traitors, who wins?)
This composition features less common time signatures usually found at this level, with the introduction in 7/8 and the ‘B’ melody in the Vivace in 5/4.
The pitched tube music is provided on addition sheets so you can copy as many parts as you need for your students. There are 10 tube pitches (a regular octave C-C and additional low C and low D (or octave caps). It’s best to spread them fairly evenly between your performers (with 40 players, have around 4 on each pitch).
No Boomwhackers? No worries. You can substitute each pitch for anything you can hit (and the students will love helping). I used various sized cardboard and plastic boxes hit with drumsticks, and even used a metal hobby enclosure and lid for the highest pitches.
Plenty of melody spread around to all the instruments should keep your low brass and woodwind players happy, and ranges very reasonable.
